Plymouth, N.H. – A seasoned business strategist, college professor and entrepreneur is the new director of the Enterprise Center at Plymouth. Eric Spieth of Bend, Oregon, starts his new position April 25th and comes to Plymouth State University from Central Oregon Community College where he is a professor and the program director for the Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence and Development.

“This position offers everything I cherish in my own life and work; service to the community, service to the university, collaboration, integrity and impact,” Spieth said. “I look forward to serving as an ambassador for the university, building community and student success, nurturing and supporting economic development and most specifically, innovation and entrepreneurship.”

The Enterprise Center at Plymouth (ECP), located at 1 Bridge Street, is a business incubator and accelerator whose goal is to support entrepreneurship, small businesses and economic development in central New Hampshire. The building is owned by the Grafton County Economic Development Council (GCEDC); PSU provides incubator staffing, business services and intellectual capital through its College of Business Administration (CoBA). Essentially, the ECP provides a “one-stop shopping” location for regional businesses seeking advice and counseling, services, leased space, mentoring and networking.

“The ECP was created to be a hub of entrepreneurial activity in central NH and provide businesses with a welcoming environment for collaboration and business assistance,” said Chris Wellington, CEO of the GCEDC. “Eric’s prior experience building an entrepreneurial ecosystem and supporting startups and small businesses will take the ECP to the next level. He will greatly enhance our ability to build successful businesses that create jobs and increase economic activity throughout the region.”

Robyn Parker, dean of PSU’s CoBA, said Spieth’s experience in both business and academia make him an excellent choice for leading the ECP.

“Now in our third year, we’re ready to more fully integrate student entrepreneurial activity at the ECP while maintaining support of our resident and client businesses,” Parker said. “We’re thrilled to have found Eric to lead this endeavor. His ideas are captivating and his energy is contagious.”

Spieth has taught at the college level for the past decade, specializing in entrepreneurship, management and marketing. His private sector experience includes three years as CEO of Mad River Brewing in Blue Lake, Calif., and 10 years as a business consultant in California and Oregon. He earned a bachelor’s degree at California State University Channel Islands and an MBA from Humboldt State University.
